Sonlight Social Studies Suggestions:Write about the Sonlight books--useful because it incorporates both writing and
reading: 1. Reaction to the book. 2. Some kind of creative take-off on the book (putting yourself into a scene from the book and describing it, writing about your role as a character in the book, writing a fictional diary excerpt of a character in the book , etc.) 3. Some families use the questions in Sonlight and have students write out the answers. Other ideas: 1. Make a timeline for a book or period. 2. Choose I topic from a book (ie. a historical figure, a specific topic) and research it further. Write a report or show your findings in a poster or tell your LEG in a short oral report at conference. Use technology: video or Powerpoint presentation if you want. 3. Make a lap book about a topic. 4. Make food from the country that you are studying, take pictures of you making it and your family eating it. 5. Make a poster about a country or culture. Do artwork from that country or culture. 6. Make maps for each country you are studying. 7. Interview someone who actually was born in the country you are studying. 8. Go on a field trip pertaining to a Sonlight topic you are studying. Extend the learning by following up on a specific topic you learned about or draw or write an explanation of what you learned. |
